Philip M. Andrews
Mr. Andrews is the Managing Principal of the Firm, having joined it in 1985. His practice is concentrated in business litigation, but also includes government contracts and procurement, intellectual property litigation, construction, environmental, employment, and various insurance and tort matters, before federal and state courts and administrative agencies.
Mr. Andrews is listed in the publication The Best Lawyers in America in the areas of Bet-the-Company Litigation and Commercial Litigation, and has been listed in Maryland Super Lawyers since its first year of publication. He is a Fellow, Litigation Counsel of America, a trial and appellate lawyer honorary society. Mr. Andrews is also a 2009 winner of The Daily Record's Leadership in Law award.
Before joining the Firm, Mr. Andrews served for five years in the Office of the Attorney General of Maryland, having supervisory responsibility as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Appeals and Correctional Litigation Division. He is a recipient of the Attorney General's Exceptional Service Award. Mr. Andrews served on the faculty of the Maryland Institute for the Continuing Education of Lawyers, Inc., having taught its Nine-Day Intensive Trial Advocacy Course, Deposition Training Program, New Federal Rules Seminar, as well as its Mastering the Rules of Evidence and Motions Practice programs. Since entering private practice, he has also taught trial practice for the Office of the Attorney General.
Mr. Andrews is a member of the Litigation Section (and its Federal Court Committee) and the Public Contract Law Committee (former co-chair) of the Maryland State Bar Association. As part of his work for State Bar's Federal Court Committee, Mr. Andrews has served on its Discovery and Electronic Discovery Sub-Committees, and has participated in the drafting of discovery guidelines, form discovery, and electronic discovery protocols for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He is also member of the American Bar Association's Litigation Section, its Intellectual Property Litigation Committee, and the Forum on Construction Law. He has served as Chair of the Construction Defects Subcommittee of DRI's Construction Law Committee.
Mr. Andrews is a permanent member of the Judicial Conference for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Andrews is: Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Food Bank; a member of the Board of Trustees for Center Stage; Co-Chair of the 2010 Law Firm Campaign of the Equal Justice Council of the Legal Aid Bureau, Inc.; Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Film Industry Coalition; and a member of the Board of Directors of Business Volunteers Unlimited. He also enjoys membership in two law clubs, The Wednesday Club and Serjeants Inn.
