Jean E. Lewis
Ms. Lewis represents individuals, businesses and local governments in a wide range of matters involving litigation. Her practice includes a variety of business disputes, pension matters, internal investigations, receiverships, adversary proceedings arising of out of bankruptcy proceedings, and matters related to the assertion of claims in Chapter 7 and 11 proceedings. She represents clients in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy court, and in arbitration proceedings.
Ms. Lewis has also spent time working in the public sector. She most recently co-chaired the Baltimore Economic Recovery Team and served as the Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office on Criminal Justice. Before becoming affiliated with the Firm, Ms. Lewis practiced law in California, serving as a public defender in Alameda County and representing children for several years at Legal Services for Children, Inc.
Ms. Lewis graduated from Carleton College in 1985, magna cum laude, with a B.A. in mathematics. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She received her law degree from New York University in 1990 and was awarded the school's public service fellowship.
Ms. Lewis is admitted to practice law in Maryland and California, in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and in the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second and Fourth Circuits. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Rose Street Community Center in East Baltimore.
